Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options for Prion Diseases.
Dewald Bravis
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs), also known as prion diseases, are a group of rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. These diseases are caused by prions, which are abnormal proteins that can cause normal proteins in the brain to misfiled and clump together, leading to the formation of holes or "spongy" tissue in the brain. There is currently no cure for TSEs, and treatment options are limited. This article provides an overview of the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for prion diseases.
